Service Broker brings messaging into the database. It is the technology behind Database Mail, Event Notifications and Query Notifications. Service Broker allows for asynchronous stored procedure execution, and loosely coupled applications. For the DB architect this means scalability and reliability at the same time. In this presentation Hilary Cotter, explains how to scale your applications using Service Broker, and how to use Query Notifications to cache your data to minimize the hits to the database. While Service Broker is a very powerful technology it is also very much a black box and difficult to troubleshoot. Hilary also presents a methodology for troubleshooting and debugging Service Broker technologies.

Web Synchronization is a merge replication technology which allows you to synchronize SQL Server with handhelds, tablets and laptops over the internet offering high security and high performance. In this presentation Hilary Cotter demonstrates how to set web synchronization up, how to monitor and troubleshoot it and how to optimize it. Hilary recently scaled a web synchronization topology to 4000 subscribers.

Hilary Cotter is a 20 year IT veteran who has been a SQL Server MVP since 2001. He specializes in HA technologies and performance tuning. He is based in NJ.
